Advising

Advising plays an important part in shaping your graduate studies and your career. Whether the question is about a particular course, or a university rule, or a choice in your career path, talking to an advisor in the department can save time and ensure that you are headed in the right direction. There are several advisors in the department available for you to consult:

Faculty Advisor

A member of the faculty can provide valuable advice about courses in the department, overall curriculum requirements, and career issues. You are assigned a faculty advisor when you are accepted into one or the department’s graduate programs. This assignment is based upon our understanding of your academic interests (after reading your application) and the appropriate match with a member of the faculty who has similar interests. However, should your academic interests change and it is appropriate to switch to another faculty advisor, please complete the department’s petition form stating this change and turn it in to the Graduate Program office.

Graduate Program Director

Professor Ronald Hedlund, the Graduate Director in the department, oversees many aspects of the Political Science graduate programs. He can be consulted on general program issues as well as your progress in the graduate curriculum and university-level matters.

Graduate Administrative Assistant

Brynn Thompson, the Graduate Administrative Assistant, is responsible for many aspects of the day-to-day operation of the graduate programs. She is available during regular business hours and can be consulted on various administrative issues related to your graduate studies.
