Welcome to the Department of Political Science

The Department of Political Science offers undergraduate and graduate programs to students interested in learning about the political world around them, and to students seeking career options in government and related fields. In the Northeastern tradition of experiential learning, we combine the best in academic studies with work experiences through internships, cooperative education, service learning, and other experiential opportunities.

If you are an undergraduate, the department offers a Bachelor of Arts and Bachelor of Science degree that covers all the major fields in the discipline, including American politics, comparative politics, international relations, political theory, and public policy and public administration. You will be introduced to the major fields through core introductory courses, followed by a variety of upper level courses to help you explore key topics and issues in greater depth. Your undergraduate education includes an experiential learning component such as an internship, co-op assignment, or other activity.

For graduate students, the department offers a Doctorate in Public and International Affairs as well as a Master of Arts in Political Science and a Master of Public Administration. The Doctorate in Public and International Affairs provides theoretical and applied training related to the world of public affairs. As a doctoral student, you complete appropriate coursework, a comprehensive examination, and a dissertation.

The Master of Arts curriculum covers the major fields in political science and prepares you for further doctoral study or a career in government and related areas. The Master of Public Administration curriculum helps you to develop the core administrative competencies of budgeting, personnel, policy analysis and other skill areas required to work in government or the non-profit sector.

Please use this website to learn more about our programs and the faculty in the department. We think you will agree that the Department of Political Science offers many exciting and challenging opportunities to develop your interest, knowledge, and skills in the world of government and politics.
